  • Barbecue and Grill

    Thank you Andy Rooney!

Yes, I am stealing... borrowing, a cliche line from Andy Rooney. "Have you ever wondered why TV chefs with their own shows don't seem to know the difference between barbecue and grilling?"

  • Barbecue Sauced Steaks!

Get ready to make a cheap steak taste better! And, why not add some barbecue flavor to your favorite cut of beef? Here's a great recipe for you to adjust to your own tastes.

  • Bowl Season Easy Reicpes

    It's Bowl Season Again!!

Man, how fast this last year went. Here are a few of my New Years resolutions that pertain to my cooking. One, I'm going to finish this new book on deadline. I'm sure my editor would love that. Two, I am going to do a better job of cooking healthier foods. I don't know if that counts since Ally and I have already started doing that. Three, I will no longer consider Halloween candy corn as a vegetable.

It's getting close to the end of the regular NCAA football season - which means bowl season is getting closer! So I thought a few of my game day recipes would be in order. Here are two recipes that are pretty easy to fix.

  • Cocoa Rubbed Grilled Rib Eye

Valentine's Day, Steak, and the flavor of Cocoa! There's something awesome about combining cocoa and a nice steak. My local meat cutter at our neighborhood Bi-Lo pointed out this recipe, and a few others, to me in one of their printed store flyers. I was in looking for a deal on some ribs - leave it to a meat cutter to up-sell me on some nice steaks! So, if you're looking for a different twist on a Valentine's Day grilling session then this might fit the bill!

  • Dave & Paul's Compound Butters

    Butter Done Right!

davepaulbutterslowI'm a big fan of seasoned butters. I've made a few small bowls here and there for different dishes. I bet you may have done so as wel, at least on a small scale. How many times have you blended butter with cinnamon or brown sugar for toast, added Italian seasoning or other spices for a steak butter. I'm a sucker for hot cinnamon toast. Imaging doing those simple dishes.... and then taking it about ten levels higher!

That's what Dave Smith and Paul Tripp have done with Dave and Paul's Compound Butters. Now, I'm not bashing my good old cinnamon toast, but I have to be honest and say that the Dave & Paul's Oddly Orange Compound Butter put put my toast topping to shame! I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to sample some of Dave and Paul's creations and try them in a few recipes.

  • Grilled Pound Cake - Why Not?

Kent Whitakers grilled pound cake with strawberriesWhy not? I've Grilled Pizza? Why not cake?

Grilled pound cake is my signature dessert. It's a perfect match for my style of cooking, which is heavy on barbecue, the real, slow-smoked kind, as well as when I fire up the grill. Sure, you can make your own pound cake and ice cream from scratch or you can save some time and pick some up at the store.

  • Hot and Buttery Wings!

Basic Hot & Buttery Wings! The classic wing made simple. This recipe is a version of the classic chicken wing. Just combine a couple of simple ingredients, bake and dip. It can't be much easier than that!

  • White Chocolate Mashed Potatoes

I love chocolate and I love mashed potatoes!  My local meat cutter at our neighborhood Bi-Lo pointed out this recipe, and a few others, to me in one of their printed store flyers. I was in looking for a deal on some ribs - leave it to a meat cutter to up-sell me on some nice steaks and some potatoes! So, if you're looking for a different twist on a Valentine's Day grilling/cooking session then this tasty side dish might be the perfect addition to your menu.
