Try Some Grilled Pizza - Ally and I love just about anything cooked on the grill, and this goes for pizza as well. Yep, pizza cooked on the grill. Don’t worry. You won’t have to learn to toss dough over your head like those cool guys in high end pizza eateries. But I do think that would be fun to learn, or at least give it a try in four easy steps!

Why this is cool - Well, it's pizza... on a grill. That's pretty cool. Another thing is that you can set up a topping area and let everyone build their own personal sized pies. This works great with kids who may be picky about basic toppings while you and your adult guests may want to try something more exotic on your pizza.

First, you need a covered grill. The covered grill essentially works as an oven. Or, if you have a pizza oven in your back yard... then start making some pizza and save me a slice.

Second: Here comes the crust. You can make your own, allow it to rise, stiffen slightly and cook on greased grates or using a grilling tray. Or, skip that part and grab some store bought pizza crusts or even some cool deli bread. I suggest using smaller crusts as opposed to the large size simply because they fit on grill racks better and are easy to handle. Plus, each person can custom make their own pizza. It you only can find the large crusts then you may need to cut them in half depending on your grill.

Third: Add your favorite sauce and toppings! Choose a sauce from white to red... or even barbecue sauce or simply olive oil! You can use all of the traditional topping items like Ham, beef, sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, veggies and more. Plus you need some cheese and some sauce. All of this really boils down to your favorite toppings. Don't stop at the regular stuff try smoked chicken, shrimp, barbecue, roasted veggies, and more. The Cheese selection is wide open as well!

Fourth: HCooking your pizza pie on the grill! Here's what you need to do! Place the completed pie on your grill using an upper rack or offset heat, or directly over the heat if using low heat as to not burn the bottom of the crust. Close the lid, bake, open, slice and serve!.

  • If using a soft or homemade crust you probably want it to stiffen some or use a grilling tray. Pre-cook the crust slightly if needed.
  • Storebought pre-cooked crusts can be topped with sauce, toppings, and cheese. Then, place it on the grill with low to medium heat, close the lid until everything is golden and the cheese is melted. Remember, the crust is done so you're just heating up things and meltling cheese.
  • Oh, BIG TIP HERE! I suggest using pre-cooked meat toppings so all you have to do is warm everything up and melt the cheese. Your grill determines on if you cook on the top rack or the grill grate surface.

BONUS FLAVOR! If you can, use Hickory wood chips for some extra smoke flavor. It will really give your grilled pizza a nice wood fired taste that really sets it apart from anything you can toss in the oven. Here is a recipe that you can get started with. Barbecue Grilled Pizza
2 pizza crusts store bought
Beef, pork or chicken barbecue –your choice
1 cup barbecue sauce divided
Chopped onion
Chopped green pepper
Shredded cheddar cheese
Crumbled pepper jack cheese
Coat each crust with your favorite sauce and the barbecue. Top with chopped onion and green peppers then cheese. Cook on a covered grill for about 10 minutes or until heated and cheese is melted.
